Working principle of butterfly valve

2023-10-18

A butterfly valve is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipeline. It consists of a circular disc, known as the "butterfly," which rotates around its axis perpendicular to the flow direction. When the butterfly valve is fully open, the disc is parallel to the direction of the flow, allowing maximum flow through the valve. When the butterfly valve is closed, the disc is perpendicular to the direction of the flow, effectively blocking the flow through the valve.

The butterfly valve is typically actuated by a handle or an actuator, which rotates the disc to control the flow. The actuator can be manually operated or automated depending on the application.

The butterfly valve works on the principle of a quarter-turn rotation of the disc to regulate the flow. When the handle or actuator is rotated, the disc rotates with it, changing the degree of opening of the valve. The butterfly valve can provide precise flow control and is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including water treatment plants, chemical plants, and power plants.
